After enduring all the ups and downs and years of disappointment, the Anaheim Ducks have finally proved that they can compete against the best and win in the NHL. What a remarkable season it was.
The Stanley Cup is now theirs.
For the first time in the fourteen year history of the franchise, the Anaheim Ducks have won the coveted prize (in dominating fashion).
Let the party begin (rumored to be this Saturday, 6:30pm at Honda Center)!
Here’s the scoring summary by period.
First Period: Andy McDonald (Ducks) and Rob Niedermayer (Ducks) scored in first. Ducks 2-0 at first intermission.
Second Period: Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa), Travis Moen (Ducks (assisted by Ottawa’s Phillips mishandled puck and Emery’s skate)), Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa, shorthanded), Francois Beauchemin (Ducks) in the second. Ducks 4-2 at second intermission.
Third Period: Travis Moen and Corey Perry (both from the Ducks).
Final Score: Anaheim Ducks 6, Ottawa Senators 2.
In addition, Captain Scott Niedermayer (Ducks) won the Conn Smythe Memorial Trophy (Playoff MVP).
