Call me a geek, I won’t be offended. The following is just one example of my geekiness. I’m sure there’ll be more to follow…
For this year’s Fourth of July celebration, I decided to broadcast my local fireworks show using both Ustream.tv and Stickam. This was done on my laptop using two different cameras (a JVC Mini DV Cam connected to my Ustream feed and a Logitech QuickCam Express connected to my Stickam feed.).
Suffice it to say that they both connected very well on the same computer that I didn’t think I was going to have a problem this evening. I guessed wrong.
With a few minutes left in the show, the wireless adapter card decided to quit on me, thus disconnecting both cameras from their respective feeds. A mad scramble to restart the card and to re-establish connectivity to my router and starting each feed up again proved fruitless as the fireworks show ended. (I could hear the finale during the manic moment in trying to “fix” things…)
I was pretty bummed in thinking that I had lost both feeds while they were in “record” mode and that I’d lost everything. When I checked my Stickam page, sure enough, the video wasn’t there. I then checked Ustream and was surprised and impressed to see that it saved everything from start to where it crashed! Awesome, guys!
So, here’s the link to the video on Ustream, or enjoy the embedded feed below. Hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July celebration!
