It’s official, my car is a goner…

authorDwayne | December 10, 2008

Earlier today, I received calls from both the body shop and insurance adjuster and they both verified that my car is a total loss. Now, it’s time to shop for either a good used or brand new one and see what happens. It’s certainly not the Christmas present I wanted as it would entail another monthly payment.

Will keep you posted…

My Car Update

authorDwayne | December 8, 2008

After getting rear-ended Saturday night, I may have driven my car for the last time  this morning after taking it to the shop.  I haven’t heard back from the adjuster on their decision yet, but when I took it in this morning, the initial inspection team saw the damage and they mentioned it didn’t look good.

Basically, parts and labor costs could be close to it’s actual value.  Usually when that happens, the insurance company will call it a total loss and not mess with repairing it.

Suffice it to say, I’m pretty bummed out about it.  The car had been paid off for years and it was nice not having a car payment.

In preparation for the worse, I’m checking out interest rates with my financial institution and checking to see what’s available at the dealerships as well.  With the way the economy is going, I’m hoping to find something that is safe, dependable and affordable that will get me to work, etc.  Nothing fancy, just something practical.

For those of you wondering, there were no injuries (thankfully) and I’m glad my son wasn’t with me when it occurred.  If he was, it could have been a whole different story.

More later,

OC Fires, 20081115

authorDwayne | November 15, 2008

Update: 9:04pm-Looks like there’s a possibility that both the Brea and Yorba Linda fires may unite somewhere near Olinda in the Carbon Canyon area.

As I look out my north window, there’s a distinct orange glow from the Brea fire.  Man, it seems a bit unnerving knowing that it’s pretty darn close to home.  I’m pretty sure that most of the mountain biking trails I’ve ridden up there are gone!  Certainly, this day has been a bad day in OC.

Tomorrow, will probably be just as bad as the weather people are saying the strong Santa Ana’s won’t begin to subside until late tomorrow.  My prayers and thoughts are for those who lost it all and for the fire fighters who are continuing the brave battle.

Check out a map from the OC Register’s website that may be of interest to those who aren’t familiar with the area covered by these two fires.  Also, here’s the main link to the OC Register’s fire coverage: http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sections/news/firecentral/

Initial Post: 12:13pm-Just a quick post to inform everyone of a couple fires in my area. As of this post, there’s one north in Brea and one east in the Corona/Yorba Linda area. In relation to where I’m at, I’d say the closest one (Brea) is roughly 3-5 miles north.

I’ve uploaded pics and vids to my Flickr page so go check them out.

Guess there’s never a dull moment in SoCal…
