After two periods, the Ducks led this one, 2-1. The third period started with a near full two-minute power play for the Ducks when Scott Neidermayer was tripped up by rookie Matt Niskanen on a potential breakaway.

In addition, Dallas’ Trevor Daley went to the penalty box for holding Chris Kunitz just a few moments into the third to give the Ducks a 5-3 opportunity. Teemu Selanne buried a shot at :48 to up their lead, 3-1. Unfortunately, the two-goal lead didn’t last when Mike Ribiero scored even-strength at 4:41.

However, at the 12:05 mark, Sean O’Donnell received a great pass from Chris Kunitz and scored to put the Ducks up, 4-2. Turco was pulled for the extra man, but that didn’t work as Todd Marchant scored at the 18:36 mark to seal Dallas’ fate, 5-2.

Go Ducks!

Series Standings: Anaheim Ducks 2, Dallas Stars 3.

Game 6 is Sunday (4/20) at Dallas.

Shots on Goal: Dallas 42, Anaheim 32.

Box Score, Game Summary

The Ducks are on the brink of elimination after a 3-1 loss in Dallas this evening. Goalie, Marty Turco played brilliant as the Stars dominated on defense. Corey Perry returned after a six-week recovery from his widely publicized quadriceps tendon surgery but was ineffective in the offensive production for the Ducks.

So, tomorrow (Friday) night may just be the end of the “run”. We’ll have to see. There’s still hope left in many Ducks fans but it will certainly be a huge uphill climb to win three in a row and move on.

Go Ducks!

Series Standings: Anaheim Ducks 1, Dallas Stars 3.

Game 5 is Friday night (4/18) at 7:30pm PST.

The tables seemed to have turned a bit tonight when the Ducks scored three goals in the first and an additional one in second to dominate (sort of) the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.

This 4-2 victory didn’t come without a scare though, as the Stars managed to score two power play goals in the final period to cut their deficit in half.

Getzlaf, R. (10:09 in 1st)

It started out pretty much the same with penalties by the Ducks and the Dallas Stars being ahead 2-0 in the second period.

However, Teemu Selanne scored on the power play, 3:21 into the second period, to cut the deficit in half. With Todd Bertuzzi coming out of the penalty box, he fed the puck to Travis Moen to tie the game 2-2!!!

Note: Shots on goal at the end of the second period: Dallas 23, Anaheim 12.

The Ducks started the third period on the power play when Mike Modano was called for a penalty at the end of the second.  Things looked good.  So, that’s what we thought. Nothing happened on the power play, however, later in the period, Modano started the scoring barrage for the Stars by scoring the go ahead (and eventual game winning) goal on a slapper past Jiggy at 5:47 into the third. Then, Brad Richards scored for the Stars 55 seconds later to up their lead, 4-2.  And if that wasn’t enough, the Stars scored again with 5:23 left.

Scoring Summary:

DAL: Ribeiro, M. (06:28 in 1st), Lehtinen, J. (PPG, 01:28 in 2nd), Modano, M. (PPG, 05:47 in 3rd), Richards, B. (06:42 in 3rd), Eriksson, L. (14:36 in 3rd)
ANA: Selanne, T. (PPG, 03:41 in 2nd), Moen, T. (16:19 in 2nd)

Bottom line:  Too many penalties, lack of both offensive and defensive control, terrible goal-tending.  Pretty much every factor of our “game plan” didn’t happen.  As with Game 1, Game 2 was highlighted by the glass-repair team’s success.  At least we have a good maintenance crew at Honda Center, but I can’t say much about our Ducks.  You can’t give away three goals in the final period and expect to win!  If things can’t turn around in Dallas, it’s literally over.  Four and out…

SOG at the end of the game:  Dallas 30, Anaheim 22.

Series Standings: Anaheim Ducks 0, Dallas Stars 2.

In probably one of the most disgusting playoff games in Duck’s history, I couldn’t narrow down how I’d start off this game review. “Nightmare in Anaheim”, “I Should Have Stayed Home Tonight”, “Ducks Lose Cool and Game, Again…”, etc.

This was one of those typical game repeats in which we took too many penalties because of our lack of discipline and just lost it. Frustrations got the best of us and it showed as all four Dallas goals were on their power play. It was over when it began as the Stars capitalized on two power plays in the first period and coasted to a 4-0 shutout win over the Ducks.

Things had better change or it’s beyond over for the Ducks.

Series Standings: Anaheim Ducks 0, Dallas Stars 1.
