Instructions: Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death. Boaters should be aware of an increased number of surfers and body boarders utilizing the harbor channel to access surfing areas.

.a large northwest swell will rapidly build from northwest to southeast down the island chain today. The surf is expected to peak tonight into wednesday morning, then slowly lower wednesday afternoon. The combination of strong north to northeast winds, large surf, and above normal high tide levels, will increase the risk for significant beach erosion and possibly lead to some minor overwash onto coastal roadways.

* surf...rising to 20 to 30 feet along north and west facing shores of niihau and kauai, and north facing shores of oahu, molokai and maui. Rising to 15 to 20 feet this afternoon through wednesday along west facing shores of oahu and molokai.
* timing...through 6 pm wednesday.
* impacts...high...expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous. Additionally, the combination of strong north to northeast winds, large surf, and above normal high tide levels, will increase the risk for significant beach erosion and possibly lead to some minor overwash onto coastal roadways, particularly around the high tide cycle early wednesday morning.
